Tight Penile Foreskin(Phimosis) Surgery

Phimosis is a condition in which the foreskin of the penis becomes too tight to be pulled back over the head (glans) of the penis.

Causes

There are two main types:
  • Physiological Phimosis – Common in children; usually resolves naturally with age.
  • Pathological Phimosis – Occurs due to conditions like poor hygiene, eczema, psoriasis, or Balanitis Xerotica Obliterans (BXO).

Symptoms

  • Redness or discoloration (especially if infected)
  • Swelling or inflammation
  • Pain during erection or sexual activity
  • Pain while urinating (dysuria)

Treatment

  • Physiological phimosis usually improves with age. If it persists or causes issues, conservative treatment may be tried.
  • Pathological phimosis in adults may initially be treated with steroid creams or anaesthetic gels along with gentle stretching.
If conservative methods fail, surgery is the definitive treatment. Options include:
  • Laser Circumcision
  • Stapler Circumcision
  • Conventional Circumcision
These are typically day-care procedures with minimal recovery time.
