What is Appendix ?
Appendix is a narrow , blind ended tube, three-and-a-half-inch-long Lymphoid organ that project out from the colon.It is also called as Abdominal Tonsil.Inflammation of appendix is known as appendicitis. Appendicitis can affect anyone, however, it is more common in Paediatric age group & Adolescents .
Causes
Appendicitis is usually caused when Lumen of Appendix is Blocked or Obstructed by various including ;
-Foreign bodies
-Stools that have hardened
-Lymphocytic follicles that are enlarged
-Irritable bowel syndrome
-A traumatic damage to the body
-Tumours
Symptoms
– Abdominal pain initially near umbilicus(Navel) later on the right Bottom side .
– Loss of Appetite /Indigestion
-Nausea /Vomiting
-Diarrhoea or Constipation
-Feeling of Abdominal Fullness
-Low Grade Fever
Treatment
Initially we gave a try of Conservative Medical management ,in some cases it may work.But most of patients may eventually need Appendectomy i.e Surgical Removal of Appendix.
